I want to be a Christian that brings a great name to Christianity and to other Christians.  There are too many out there that bring a bad name to Christians.

I remember a past boss, a Christian whose modus operandi appeared to be putting others down, possibly to make herself feel and look better, she even threw in lies for good measure and portrayed herself as perfect.  I thought “if this is a church-going Christian, I want nothing to do with it.”  This person was not using her influence in what I thought was a Christian way.

There were other Christians where I worked and they set a good example so I thought I’d investigate.  I’m so thankful I decided to ignore the behavior of one person.  I was blessed (lol – I used to call something like this “luck” but I don’t use that word hardly at all anymore) to have some good Christians around me that did (and do) follow the Bible and applied what the Bible says in their own lives.

Christians do screw up, we are human.

The church is made of a human congregation and, because of that, the church can’t be perfect.  There will always be one or two that bring a bad name to Christianity.  Same thing with a workplace – you can have a great workplace and a few bad apples can give the place a bad name.  As long as there are humans in any organization, that organization can’t be perfect.

There are also people who call themselves Christian but aren’t.  I know these people well – I was a professing Christian prior to December 2013.  I didn’t read the Bible, I didn’t follow the Commandments (after all, I believed it was my life and I could live it in whichever way I chose – oh, and of course, I knew best – for those of you that don’t know me, I’m poking fun at myself – my beliefs have done an about-face since that time).  I was not a good example of a Christian before (after all, I wasn’t really a Christian – it was news to me that I wasn’t a Christian just because I believed in God) – I come a bit closer now and I’m thankful that God is working on my heart and that I’m heading in the right way.

There are people that “parade” as Christian leaders – I saw a video last week – a man at the front of a congregation doing stage theatrics – sweeping his arm over the people and people falling to their knees.  To me, it looked like the devil, parading as a stage hypnotist, dressed up as a Christian leader.

If you are on the fence, give Christianity a chance – give God a chance to work in your life.  Pray that he will soften your heart.  Read the Bible and get to know God – he is perfect.
