I have started evangelizing and had my first conversation in the workplace at the end of the day on January 6, 2015.  OK, so I get that talking about religion is seen as a taboo by some … I did feel uncomfortable having the conversation.  Looking back on the week, I think the discomfort was because it was my first real conversation (apart from friends asking questions).  It wasn’t until the conversation was underway (or after leaving the office) that I realized talking about religion in the workplace can be viewed as taboo.  LOL … this is my life – act/experience now and then think it through later.  Yup, there is definitely a naïve side to me (a fairly large one at times).

The first conversation started with him making a comment about doing “Hail Mary’s” … I quickly told him that doing that is against one of the commandments so that opened the conversation.

The first conversation went well – I closed it with letting him know that if he has questions, then he can ask (knowing full well that I’d have to do some research to get answers for him – I told him that I have good sources for getting questions answered).  During that conversation, he said he was baptized Anglican and that he doesn’t believe in God.  That was good, at least he knew where he was at … and, even bigger, he was honest with me and that makes it much easier to move forward with conversations.

Well, he came back with a few questions on January 9, 2015.  Out of that, we determined that he’s a Christian of Convenience – a “COC.”  Ok, maybe it’s too early for me to be coining terms (maybe not … very shortly after my conversion, I was lovingly calling Trinity “Trin”) but I went for it anyway and it worked with him – it somehow lightened the conversation – in my mind, religion should be fun.  He told me that he pleads for God’s help when things get rough and things don’t go the way he wants them to.  But, when things are going well, like so many others out there, God is farther than the back burner.

This is good.  At least he does turn to God at some times (I’m thankful he contradicted the “non-believing statement he made in our first conversation), even if it is only when things aren’t going well.  It’s a base, and I’ll keep doing my best to show him a good Christian, I’ll also keep planting little seeds and going back every now and then to add fertilizer (more of God’s word) and water the soil with prayer.

I did mention to him (after that first conversation) that some view religion as being a taboo topic in the workplace but he told me he’s open to talk about anything.  I thank God that he had that response.  It’s encouraging that this conversation went well.   I know I’m up for ridicule in the future so this is reassuring to have had this conversation early.

I have been praying that God would soften his heart so he would be open to conversations.  Another answered prayer for sure.
